Festivals get renamed, take fallow years, run every other year, or quietly never announce dates at all — and most “best festivals” lists never catch up. These are the entries in our guide whose real-world status has changed. Checked by hand, updated quarterly.

Formerly Nowhere — Spain's regional Burn rebranded to Elsewhere in 2024. Same desert, same community, different name on the poster. The 2026 edition ran 7–12 July; the official site says 2027 news is coming, and dates historically go to the mailing list before they hit the website.
Twice renamed, and most roundups still haven't caught the first change. Rainbow Serpent became Rainbow Spirit in 2023, out of respect for Aboriginal cultural concerns about the original name, and moved venues. It returned 6–9 March 2026 at Eagle Ridge Event Park, Tallarook, billed as Gathering Light — a further rebrand we've seen reported by aggregators but not yet confirmed on an official channel. 2027 dates aren't published.
This edition is not happening as usual.
The full-scale 2026 festival was cancelled. Organizers said the call was made “to ensure the longevity of Desert Hearts,” and replaced it with a smaller boutique Microfest running 1–5 October. The brand and the community are very much alive; the flagship weekend is what's gone this year.

No festival in 2026. Worthy Farm takes a fallow year every few years to let the land recover, and 2026 is one of them — the site sits empty by design, not by crisis. The official site confirms it returns Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 June 2027.
A gap year is the schedule working as intended, not a cancellation.
Biennial, so there is no full edition in 2026 — a gap that gets misread as a cancellation every cycle. The next one is the 30-year anniversary edition at Boomland, Idanha-a-Nova. We have 18–25 July 2027 from festival press; Boom's own site hadn't posted the dates when we last checked, so treat them as reported rather than official.
Biennial, and it straddles New Year rather than sitting inside one. The 19th edition runs 27 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 at Pratigi Beach, Bahia — confirmed on the official site.
Real, active, and quiet. Do not book flights on a guess.
The official site still reads “2026 Dates TBA.” The most recent event under the banner was an October 2025 offshoot in Sebastopol rather than the usual Joshua Tree gathering, which makes the flagship's status worth watching.
Australia's regional Burn, and the quietest entry on this list. No 2026 dates have been published anywhere, and the official news feed hasn't been updated since 2025. We're listing it as pending rather than dead — but if you're planning a trip around it, wait for the organizers to speak.
The 2026 edition wrapped on 2 August. Pre-registration for 2027 is already open on the official site, but the dates themselves haven't been posted — Amsterdam's early-August window is the pattern, not a promise.
The 2026 burn ran 16–20 July in Masontown, West Virginia. No 2027 dates have been announced yet, on either of the event's official domains.
These will never have a tidy annual date to publish.
There is no organization to announce anything — that's the entire point. The main gathering has traditionally run 1–7 July, on land chosen by consensus and revealed late. 2027 is rumored for Nebraska or Wyoming; rumor is genuinely the best available source here.
Not a festival and not annual. Ten-day residential courses run continuously, year-round, at Dhamma centers worldwide — dates are per-center and published on each center's own course schedule.
