Perched on cliffs above the Pacific in Big Sur, Esalen has been the birthplace of half of what we now call the wellness movement since 1962 - hot springs baths cantilevered right over the waves, hundreds of workshops a year in everything from somatic therapy to shamanic practice, and a setting so beautiful it does half the healing on its own. You need a reservation and a bit of patience getting there (the coast road runs on convoy schedules), but people who've been keep going back for decades.
